Today marks the 11th Annual System Administrator Appreciation day (http://www.sysadminday.com/), held the last Friday in July every year. Chances are, if you work at any sort of modern place of business you use a computer. Whether it be a bank of super computers, a mainframe, a workstation, or a lowly cash register, you are using a piece of technology that someone has to maintain.
These people are a rare, but growing breed, the System Administrator. These people do a lot for you, and chances are you do not even notice. They tend to work behind the scenes or when other people are not around so as not to disturb them while they are working.
Many of the tasks they perform seem arcane and mysterious to the general work force. As such, they are often under unreasonable deadlines or receive unreasonable requests or are the subject of misdirected anger.
To recognize all that your sytem addministartor does for you and all that they put up with, treat them to something special today. Whether you buy them lunch, or just a snack and a Mt. Dew, show them how much you appreciate their efforts.
