The 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) ended last week, and boy is there tons of goodies. Every year Las Vegas becomes the world’s center for electronic gadgets and toys. It offers a forum for electronics companies to come show off all of their upcoming products for the year to get our collective appetites whetted.
This show illustrates how important we geeks are to the world economy. Companies make billions of dollars off of high tech gadgets aimed at the geek in all of us. Whether it is a smart phone, tablet, or brand new TV. Geeks have always been in love with these types of gadgets, and these companies know it. Maybe it is our wish to use the same gadgets in our favorite science fiction novel or movie, maybe it’s just our love of blinking and flashing lights.
Luckily for those of us who could not attend, the internet is here to rescue us from technological ignorance. I know I for one checked Cnet every hour for all the latest updates. Personally, I am in the market for a new phone soon so I paid the most attention to all of the new smartphone updates. The Droid Bionic is the one I am eagerly awaiting. We here at It’s Geektime hope to attend next year, something to look forward to.
With recent changes in the format of E3, CES has become the new big show in town to show off technology. E3 seems to be back to its old self, but for a year or two it lost some traction due to being too restrictive in its attendee list. Some companies, like Apple, prefer to hold their own press conferences so as not to have their announcements lost in the crowd of everyone else’s. To me this is just silly. If they are so unconfident in their new products that they think people will not pay attention to theirs, they need to work on it.
