Welcome to another edition of the Itsgeektime.com™, Crack’s game of the week (that’s John btw). Eventually I might even get to the point where I am actually updating this every week. But anyways, I digress.

Assassin’s Creed is a third person action game developed by Ubisoft Montreal. You might remember Ubisoft from Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. I know this game is a touch old (November 2007), but having just gotten my 360 and wanting to play the sequel that came out this past November. I figured I’d start with the first one.

Assassin’s Creed gives you control of the assassin Altaïr ibn La-Ahad, a high ranking member of the Order of the Hashshashin, the brotherhood of the assassin. The twist is you are actually a kidnapped bartender from a thousand years later caught up in a giant conspiracy. You are able to simulate the experiences of your ancestor in a virtual reality environment. Abstergo, the evil giant corporation, intends to put you in the device to simulate the memories of this particular ancestor. They hope that you can unlock a highly valuable secret through doing it and won’t let you go until you do.

The feel of this game is great, from the storyline, to the detailed animation of your character. A few of my favorite things are how realistic you look as you scale many giant buildings and the views of the massive cities of the Middle East once you’ve reach the great heights. This battle system feels very natural, you have complete control of what you do with your weapons and it's very easy to switch between them. Also, there is something very satisfying about leaping at a dimwit guard only to instantly dispatch him with your hidden blade. Or even better, running a guard through with your sword and watching the reaction of his friends as they are trying, and failing to outnumber you.

I am not through the entire game yet but I would like to give Assassin’s Creed a preemptive 9 on our d10 scale of awesomeness for a very well put together game. Once again proving to me that mindless violence is always very satisfying.
