The Ultimate Avengers 2 is the sequel to Marvel’s first animated movie The Ultimate Avengers. In it, Captain America’s nemesis has returned for reasons unknown to terrorize the secluded African country of Wacanda. The Avengers are headed their to help the Blank Panther fight off this new foe.
At the start of the film, the team is dispersed. Doctor Banner is locked up and is on trial for his actions as the Hulk. Ironman is of course busy being Tony Stark. Giantman and Wasp are working on perfecting Giantman’s transformation technique. It is uncertain as to what Thor is doing but his father, Odin, does not wish him to involve himself with the mortal world. Only Captain America and Black Widow are still with S.H.I.E.L.D.
From the start of the movie Captain America is having trouble dealing with living in the future. He continues to throw himself at every mission so that he can to drown his sorrows in his work. The team is increasingly concerned with his mental state. This is an interesting look into the mind of Captain America. It makes you think how would you feel if you were suddenly thrust into a world where you knew no one and everything was strange to you.
This sequel is full many similar, emotional plot arcs. Giantman and Wasp’s marriage is on the rocks. Thor is fighting with his father about helping mortals. Even the Black Panther is torn between helping his people and preserving their isolationist way of life. American animations are not usually this deep and emotional. Because of this, Ultimate Avengers 2 really is not intended for children and parental guidance should be exercised.
The Ultimate Avengers 2 serves up decent super hero action. This action is tempered with an unsuspected depth and emotion. Watching the first movie is not required to enjoy this one fully. It’s Geektime gives this movie a solid 7 on the d10 of justice.
